33,000 Pounds of Lady May Beef Tallow Recalled Over Safety Concerns

February 12, 2025 – Common Sense Soap, a North Walpole, New Hampshire company, has recalled approximately 33,899 pounds of beef tallow due to it being processed, packaged, and labeled without the required federal food safety inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

Details of the Recall

The affected beef tallow was produced between October 16, 2024, and February 6, 2025, and was sold under the Lady May brand. These products were shipped to wholesalers and retail locations nationwide and do not bear a USDA mark of inspection.

Recalled Products

The recall includes the following products:

  • 24-fluid-ounce glass jar labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”
  • 2-pound plastic tub labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”
  • 7.8-8-pound (1 gallon) plastic tub labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef Original TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”
  • 16-pound plastic tub labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”

Why the Recall Was Issued

FSIS was alerted to the issue by a local health department and found that Lady May Tallow contracted Common Sense Soap to process and package the beef tallow without the required federal inspection. The presence of a nutrition facts label may have misled consumers into believing the product was safe for human consumption.

Health and Safety Concerns

No confirmed illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection to the recalled products. However, FSIS urges consumers to throw away or return any recalled tallow they have purchased.
